User guide
In the journey of Junior IOT we have used many different types of programmable devices. We have posted many examples on our website.
One of our earlier publications is found here: https://new.junioriot.nl/ttn-balloons-up/
For each of our projects and goals, we found an Arduino type board that fits our needs. In 2016 we started using the Arduino Pro Micro in our GPS balloon tracker set. Starting in 2017, we have been using our typical red Arduino Nano Atmega 168 with the handy micro USB in our educational projects. In 2018 we started using the Lora32u4 in our Lora projects. After some realy cool experiments with the earliest ESP32 boards, we introduced the Lolin32 into our projects in 2019. The last few years we have seen many new iterations and products – however most did not bring us the ‘right’ options in combination with our desired classic raw experience. That is, until now.
With the Junior IOT Magicbit, we are able to introduce all the new features and options:
- A perfect match with the typical Junior IOT look-and-feel: you can touch and recognize all the industry-standard components
- We love the lay-out of thecomponents and we really, really love the design and the color
- On-board features: buttons, switches, potmeter, graphic display, speaker, microphone, motor controllers
- Board expansion: expansion ports for motors, sensors, robotics, interactivity
- ESP32 features: WiFi, bluetooth, mesh networking and more
- Programming: on-board games and programming, plus programming in block-style, C Arduino style, micro-python and many more
- Many more compelling new features …
With the Junior IOT Magicbit, we now have found the ideal setup for our learners. This gives our users the best experience – compact and robust for a school environment, complete yet simple to use for our audience, while still appealing to the desires of a professional hobbyist.
Having found our perfect components, we have decided to ask the manufacturer to add our name to the product: The Junior IOT Magicbit. It comes in two sizes: Tiny and Core, each woth their own variations.

Why this page?
EU regulations explain how any product import into the EU needs to be supported by a set of information to honor the needs of consumers within the EU. Official rules help the EU import officials in approving the shipments into the EU. This current page is created to answer to these official needs. With completing these actions we are now the official importer of the product.
To be able to use the products in our educatonal projects and in projects of our customers, we will need to demonstrate CE compliance to be able to succesfully ship the product from supplier to our own address. This page presents any EU official with the official information and documentation relevant to allowing the product onto the EU market. Additionally, this page provides you as a customer with the product information to safely use the product.
Commisioning the factory to add the Junior IOT label
The factory is able to add our brandname to the product to confirm our recognition of this product. We found it is needed to officially confirm our authority to commision the brandname, in order to satisfy specific inquiries from EU import officials. We will do so in the next few paragraphs.
(the picture displays a test version – need to add product code, CE mark and Junior IOT link)

Confirm our authority for the Junior IOT brandname
EU regulations clarify that imported goods should carry the correct brandname to prevent EU customers from counterfeit goods. For some goods, we have indeed received this request from import officials, asking to provide proof of authorization to the factory to use the Junior IOT label. In this section we demonstrate our history and ownership of the brandname.
The Junior IOT name came to life in 2016, when we started our first project in dec 2016, preparing for our 2017 Balloons Up challenge. The Junior IOT name was created for our projects. Read more at: http://junioriotchallenge.nl/
- In 2019 we have registered our foundation (dutch: Stichting) as Stichting Junior IOT to handle operations in our makerspaces and in educational events. Details and founding documents are available on our website https://new.junioriot.nl/stichting/
- In 2023 we have registered the organization section Junior IOT Onderwijs BV to handle operations in our educational projects in schools. Details and official documents are available on our website https://new.junioriot.nl/junior-iot-onderwijs-bv/
Both entities are fully approved to use the Junior IOT brandname.
To help in authorizing the shipments, this page certifies three addresses in Alkmaar. First our postal address, next is our shipping address. Both are valid for items carrying the ‘Junior IOT’ logo. You can find our registered postal addresses in these founding documents for the foundation: Cabeljaustraat 9, 1815GD in Alkmaar, and for Junior IOT Onderwijs BV: Hornwaard 34, 1824 SE Alkmaar. Additionally, the registration at the Chamber of Commerce (in dutch: Kamer van Koophandel or KvK) confirms Junior IOT as our brandname and again confirms how this is connected to our postal addresses. The official extract is called ‘Uittreksel Kamer van Koophandel’ and can be found here for the foundation: https://new.junioriot.nl/app/uploads/2000/12/uittreksel_handelsregister_75357984.pdf
and here for Junior IOT Onderwijs BV: https://new.junioriot.nl/app/uploads/2023/03/KVK_Recherche_89566866_15_03_2023_16-47-09.pdf
Starting 2024 we have selected our office location for receiving larger shipments in Alkmaar: Bannewaard 164, 1824 EG Alkmaar. Each of the three mentioned addresses are valid:
- Cabeljaustraat 9, 1815GD in Alkmaar
- Hornwaard 34, 1824 SE Alkmaar
- Bannewaard 164, 1824 EG Alkmaar
Furthermore, if more confirmation is needed, the Junior IOT domain name is registered at amazon, and replicated for loadbalancing at cloudflare, including the dutch and international variations. For your confirmation, we have published our authenticity details in a TXT record as a public viewable proof of authority. Please use your preferred online viewer e.g.: https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=txt%3anew.junioriot.nl&run=toolpage or https://dnslookup.online/txt.html
This will allow you to review our DNS key in our domain registration, to confirm our authority and ownership of the brandname Junior IOT, connecting the details to our address. The public information should read:
“Stichting Junior IOT, in Alkmaar and Junior IOT Onderwijs BV, Hornwaard 34 in Alkmaar are the owners of the brand name Junior IOT. KvK registration numbers 75357984 and 89566866 are registered in the Netherlands on july 11, 2019 and march 15, 2023.”
The above statements confirm our ownership of the brandname ‘Junior IOT’ and our authority to commission the use of the name Junior IOT. For further questions, please contact us at [email protected].
Valid shipments – Commisioning the manufacturer to import our products for the Junior IOT label
With our ownership of the ‘Junior IOT’ brandname confirmed, we are authorized to commision the ‘Junior IOT’ branded products to officially display our connection with these products. We have commissioned the manufacturer to make the branded version of the products as detailed on this page. Pictured here is the factory test batch for the customized version. Please be aware that type number and product link have been added to the finalized design to satisfy EU market needs.

- Safety (LVD – Low Voltage Directive). The LVD which is a safety directive applies to all electrical equipment designed for use with a voltage rating of between 50 and 1000 V AC and between 75 and 1500 V DC. The lower voltage limits are removed for wireless devices, which essentially means every wireless device sold into Europe, even if it’s a tiny 5V DC, 1 mW Bluetooth transmitter, needs to be tested for safety. However, even if the LVD is not applicable to your product, the EU rules clearly state that a product must be still be ‘safe’.For this we review the document https://www.zvei.org/fileadmin/user_upload/Presse_und_Medien/Publikationen/2013/maerz/Role_of_CE_marking_in_the_placing_on_the_market_of_electronic_components/Position-CE-Components-2013-EN.pdf
Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) governs the safety of ‘electrical equipment’ with a voltage between 50 and 1000 V for alternating current and between 75 and 1500 V for direct current, according to its Article 1. The operational voltage of many electronic components lies outside this range. Therefore, such components do not fall under the scope of the Low Voltage Directive.
- EMC Directive. The EMC directive applies to almost all electronic equipment (unintentional radiating devices). It covers the radiated and conducted emissions performance of electronic products as well as the radiated and conducted immunity performance.
- Radio Equipment Directive (RED) as of June 2016. Applies to all radio equipment and to telecommunications terminal equipment intended to be connected to public telecommunications networks. It covers the radio characteristics and frequency allocation of wireless transmitters in Europe. A point to note is that if your equipment falls under the RED directive, then different EMC standards are usually called out instead of those used for unintentional radiating devices which fall under the EMC directive. This is because the standards for wireless transmitters in Europe also cover emissions and immunity performance specifically for transmitters.
- RoHS. An often overlooked aspect of CE compliance is the RoHS directive. This directive governs the maximum concentrations of hazardous substances contained within products. A new version of this directive came out in 2013 which now requires most electronic equipment to be compliant with the rules. If you want to be in compliance with the rules, make sure that your components and manufacturing processes comply with the RoHS requirements.
- WEEE.The WEEE Directive (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive) is now applicable to most electronic and electrical equipment in Europe. It’s aimed at redirecting waste electronic and electrical equipment from the landfill to a recycle depot instead.

Details of conformity assessment procedure by manufacturer
This document presents a statement of the conformity assessment procedure that has been followed.
–> represented by the following document
EU declaration of conformity, drafted and signed by the manufacturer
The statement to confirm the product is in conformity with the EU directives and regulations is presented in this document. For this, the EU declaration of conformity is drafted and signed by the manufacturer. This is a mandatory document that the manufacturer or authorised representative signs to declare that your products comply with the EU requirements. By signing the DoC the manufacturer or representative takes full responsibility for the product’s compliance with the applicable EU law.
The declaration as created by the manufacturer is available as PDF (link: … download link ….) … if pdf is not signed: …. and the signed version is available as JPEG

The declaration as presented above confirms conformity to the EU regulations, to allow the product on the EU market.
Confirmed CE compliance to allow application of the CE mark
To confirm CE compliance to both the import officials and the end user, the CE marking needs to be displayed on the product. Specific rules tell us how this has to be done. The EU regulations are described in this link: https://europa.eu/youreurope/business/product-requirements/labels-markings/ce-marking/index_en.htm#:~:text=The%20CE%20marking%20must%20be%20visible%2C%20legible%20and%20indelible.,in%20the%20relevant%20product%20requirements).
In our situation we need to check the rules concerning the manufacturer, see https://ec.europa.eu/growth/single-market/ce-marking/manufacturers_en
These regulations explain that we need to have the following available for any CE marked product on the EU market:
- Conformity with all relevant EU-wide requirements –> completed: the EMC and LVD results are available as detailed above.
- Technical documentation availability to market surveillance authorities –> see details at https://europa.eu/youreurope/business/product-requirements/compliance/technical-documentation-conformity/index_en.htm –> this all is now available on this webpage.
Application details for the CE mark on the product
As our product is confirmed to be compliant and is sufficiently documented, the CE mark can be applied. Logo height is at least 5 mm. The image files for the logo are available at https://ec.europa.eu/growth/single-market/ce-marking_en. We have selected this official png file:
Also, the product needs to display the applicable identification. In our case this is the model number and name as displayed on the manufacturer documentation and certifications. On the product we display the following information:
- Logo: Junior IOT
- CE marking
- Junior IOT has decided to print one of the following or both:
- Model Number: magicbit tiny / magicbit core / magicbit tiny kit / magicbit tiny stem kit / magicbit learner / magicbit pro / magicbit explorer / magicbit master
